Hooray for Average

“he’s in the low end of the normal range – but still, he’s average”

I’ve heard these words twice in the past two weeks in reference to my youngest son, J. The first time was in reference to where he was on the growth chart and the second was today when he underwent testing for Central Auditory Processing Disorder (CAPD). The Pediatrician had wanted to make sure this wasn’t playing a factor in his school challenges. We had actually tried to have him tested for it when he was in grade 1 but he’d had another ear infection and needed repeat tubes in his ears at that time. Then it went on my list of things to follow up on. And there it sat for more than a year until we saw the Developmental Pediatrician.

Lower range of average. I will take that.
